Slovakia defeated Lithuania on Day 2 of the European Men’s Softball Championship, by a score of 15-7, in an absolute slugfest. This was the second highest-scoring game during the entire tournament with both teams combining for 22 runs. The only game with more runs came in a previous game for Lithuania where they were defeated 25-0 against the Netherlands when the game was ended in the fifth under the mercy rule.
It was close after the 1st inning with Slovakia jumping out to a 3-1 lead off a home run each by Jaroslav Sitar and Marek Ostrihon.
The 2nd inning is where the bats really came alive for Slovakia as they plated 10 runs in the inning. Sitar hit twice in the inning and had yet another home run, this time a three-run shot followed by a 2 RBI double after he batted around. Sitar’s seven RBI’s makes him the current RBI leader for the tournament with nine.
Lithuania had a solid offensive showing scoring seven times on nine hits. All of their extra-base hits shockingly came from triples as they had two of those, including one from Dovydas Zakaras, who knocked in three runs on the day.
Lithuania searches for their first win against Sweden next. While Slovakia can sleep well knowing they went 2-0 on the day.
