In their opening game of the Women’s Softball European Championship, Russia shut out Bulgaria 10-2 after posting up an 8-run 2nd inning.
The second half of the inning started strong for Bulgaria with a 4-pitch fly out. Russia’s second batter singled up the middle, third batter walked and the next batter reached on a fielder’s choice. That fielder’s choice did result in the 2nd out of the inning. It also marked the start of Russia’s rally.
Daria Semenova was well set up when she stepped into the batter’s box. She did not disappoint, hitting a triple to center to drive in two runs. A throwing error scored Semenova and it began all over again. A walk, a single to 2nd and two more crossed the plate. Another single. Another run. A double to right off the bat of Tatiana Pinigina drove in two more. Vasillisa Sorokina singled up the middle to drive in Pinigina before a fly out ended the inning.
In the bottom of the 4th Pinigina singled to right. Vera Kukharenko followed in kind. That set up Milena Makushina with runners. She tripled to right driving both run across the plate and ending the game early.
