Israel came away with the W, shutout style, in their opening game of the Women’s Softball European Championship. The Israelis scored seven against the Croatians.
Croatia wasted no time threatening to score. In the top of the 1st, hitting in the #2 spot, Katarina Prskalo hit a 1-out triple to right but was left stranded. This would be the only hit of the game for Croatia as Israel’s defense, and pitching staff, kicked into high gear.
Vanessa Foreman got the start in the circle for Israel. In her two innings of work, she only allowed one hit and three walks while recording a strikeout. Ava Justman took over in the top of the third keeping Croatia at bay allowing no hits, flagging five and issuing just a single walk.
Israel’s leadoff, Ruby Salzman, hit the breakout 2-run homer in the bottom of the third to put Israel on the board. Darby Rosen backed her up with three hits on the day: a single, a double and a triple – only a homerun shy of completing the cycle.
Israel scored five runs in the bottom of the 5th to finish off Croatia.
Croatia faces Denmark next, while Israel takes on the Czech Republic.
