Denmark continues their winning ways with, yet another, victory. The Danes overtook the Dutch by a score of 5-1 in their 5th straight win.
Denmark’s Alejandro Wong wasted no time getting the bench fired up with an RBI single in the top of the 1st. The Danish bench continued to grow their lead, scoring on a passed ball in the 2nd and again in the 4th with an RBI single by Daniel Julenon.
The Netherland’s #9 hitter, Forstine Coenradd, scored the only run for his squad. He launched a solo home run deep to center to open up the bottom half of the 6th but it wasn’t enough to bring the Netherlands back into the game.
The downfall for The Netherlands came in the form of strikeouts. They fell victim to Danish hurling legend Kim Hansen 17 times. This was the most strikeouts, as a team, for the Netherlands in the tournament to date.
It was also the most Hansen has thrown in a game. Hansen threw a complete game using just 92 pitches. After today’s outing, he is now tied for first in total strikeouts with 29. Only Croatian pitcher Bruno Kukolja has matched him.
Denmark tries to maintain their winning streak, facing off against Israel in their next game, while The Netherlands look to get back to .500 when they meet up with Sweden.
