The Czech Republic had no plans to drop a game as they cruised to another impressive victory. After a 4th inning weather delay, The Netherlands decided to call it a day. Behind 7-0 when lightening cleared the field, the Dutch forfeited the game.
A hot start for the Czech Republic set the tone for this game as they jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the 1st. Home runs by Patrik Kopecny and Jakub Hajny paved the way. Hajny added another homer in the 4th, establishing himself as the tournament home run leader with four.
This was the Czech Republic’s 6th win, in as many games. Showcasing their domination on both sides of the ball they have yet to go a full 7 innings with an opponent.
Pitching shouldn’t be overlooked either for the Czechs. Starter Michal Holobradek had 8 strikeouts and did not allow a hit over his 3.1 innings of work.
The Netherlands has one last chance to get to .500 in round-robin play when they take on Slovakia in their next game. The Czech Republic could improve to 8-0, in group play, if they can defeat Lithuania and Denmark in their next two games.
