With the home field advantage, Italy claims their first win over Russia 9-0.

Greta Cecchetti dominated in the circle throwing perfectly through five innings striking out 11 of the 15 batters she faced.

A valiant effort from Russia’s pitching staff could not hold back Italy’s offense, who had 8 hits on the day. A sacrifice fly by Andrea Filler and a single to right from Giulia Longhi gave Italy their first two runs in the bottom of the 1st.

In the bottom of the 4th, a string of hits furthered Italy’s lead, and back-to-back homers from Erika Piancastelli and Andrea Filler sealed Russia’s fate.

Italy takes on Poland tomorrow, while Russia seeks its first win against Hungary.
