The Netherlands improved their record, to 2-3, with a 13-2 victory over Israel, who dropped to 1-4. Through 5 this was a tight ball game with the Dutch ahead by a score of 2-1.
In the 6th The Kingdom broke things open with a homer by Polonius to bring around Lourens who had reached on a single. Back-to-back walks and another single and they’d increased the lead by three. With runners on 1st and 2nd and no outs, Israel broke for a pitching change. 3B Myron Juaquin tried to get in a sacrifice but it fell short, one away.
Jeff Delfina tripled to right to bring both runners around and the based cleared once again. Delfina would go on to score their final run of the inning on a wild pitch before the 3rd out could be made. Netherlands ahead 8-1 heading into the bottom of the 6th.
Israel answered with some great small ball of their own but could only get a single man across ahead of the last out.
Perhaps intimidated by their fight, The Netherlands added 5 more for insurance at the top of the 7th with a grand slam by Delfina deep to center, before Jazz Voogd sent around the final runner of the game with a single to left.
Israel had last ups but couldn’t light a fire strong enough to warm up their bats.
CF Jeff Delfina, who bats at the top of the order for the Dutch, had 3 runs off 3 hits, including a triple and a homerun, leaving only 2B off his go at the cycle but managed a grand slam and 6 RBIs over just 5 at bats.
