The Czech Republic fell to Israel 6-1 in their first game of the European Championship.
The Czechs were first on the board with a run in the bottom of the 1st. Israel tied it up to start the 3rdand it remained even until the top of the 7thwhen Israel added 4 more before putting the final run of the game up in the 8th.
Though Joey Wagman pitched the majority of the game for Israel, giving up just 1 run off 3 hits while striking out 3 over 4.2 innings of work, it was Zach Weiss who got the W. Over his 1.1 innings he walked 3, struck out no one and gave up no hits. The loosing pitcher for the Czech Republic was starter Radim Chroust. He lasted 6.2 innings giving up 3 earned runs off 6 hits while striking out 3.
On offense Jakub Malik was credited with the Czech RBI when he reached on a fielder’s choice in the 1st. Off Israel’s bench it was centerfielder Blake Gaillen, who plays in the Dodgers AAA club, who had the hot bat. He went 4 for 4 with a double, homerun, 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
