Sebastian Gervasutti is one of the top softball players in the world. There are just 110 ranked players worldwide and Gervasutti is one of them. He is ranked #31 in the AA-Majors, #41 in the world.

A world-class pitcher, Sebastian has played professionally softball on 5 continents since his career began in 2003. In international competitions, he represents either Argentina or Italy, both countries in which he holds citizenship.

During his 2006 outing at the Pan Am Games, he led the Argentina national team to a bronze medal. In 2007, he earned a World Championship ring from the International Softball Congress.

2015 was a big year for Gervasutti. In addition to taking Gold at the European Super Cup Men’s tournament with Pro Roma, where he also took home the MVP Award, he participated in the 2015 World and Pan Am Games with Argentina. His homeland took bronze at the Pan Am Games. That same month the national team placed 7th in the Men’s Softball World Championships.

Sebastian participated in the European Super Cup Men’s tournament with Pro Roma from 2014-2016 taking home gold in the last two years.

Gervasutti walked away from the 2016 Super Cup with a 1.84 ERA over 19.0 innings finishing the tournament with a record of 2-1. In 4 games he struck out 36 while giving up just 5 earned runs. The opposition hit a meager .191 against him while he hammered out a .278 batting average against opposing pitchers finishing with a .333 OBP.

In 2012 Sebastian took home not only the Silver medal but the Best Pitcher and MVP Awards as well. The 2017 Men’s Euro Super Cup takes place in late August. Rosters have yet to be released.

Whether Gervasutti has a spot in this year’s tournament for the men remains to be seen but he’s already hard at work coaching the women through their season. We caught up with Sebastian at the European Women’s Softball Championship where he was riding the pine as pitching coach for Spain’s national team.

We discussed his coaching career and addressed the challenges he faces bridging the gender divide both as a coach and a player.
