Austria and Lithuania emerge from the B-Pool tournament in position for a spot in the Olympic qualifiers. The tournament was played by 12 teams in two countries. In Serbia teams from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, Israel and Switzerland took on the host team. Over in Poland it was Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, Slovakia and the Ukraine. At the 15th Men's World Softball Championship in Whitehorse, Canada there were very few surprises. Every team left the tournament nearly perfectly aligned with their rankings heading into the event. The only teams that did some placement hopping were Botswana (#19) who finished in 8th place and South Africa (#14) who finished in 10th. This is not surprising considering six of the teams currently ranked between the #9-#18 spots were not in the tournament. The championship game
The semi-final round of the Men's World Softball Championship begins today. While Europe sent four teams to the games none will advance. That doesn't mean the tournament is over for them however. The 15th Men’s Softball World Championship is underway in Whitehorse, Canada. Teams from 16 countries, including four European teams, are competing for the title. Representing the EU are the Czech Republic, Great Britain, Denmark and newcomers this year, Turkey.
The tournament is set up in two pools and each team plays a single game/day. The series began on the 5th of July and the preliminary rounds will run through the 13th before the semi’s begin.

For anyone who has followed the 20-year history of the Women’s Softball European Championship (WSEC), this year’s final results will come as no surprise. Achilles Challenge This past weekend the first Achilles Challenge took place. The softball equivalent to the Yoshida Challenge was hosted on the French Riviera with three national teams playing for the title. France Germany and Great Britain played three days of round robin games, each team playing two games a day. The final came down to Germany and Great Britain.
